[ So you know what Annie was not expecting by and large for Christmas? Anything. Know what she got? Something. Some research showed that thank you notes were considered a polite way of acknowledging gifts, and so here is the note she writes and delivers sometime after Christmas, and before the New Year: ]
Sai - I wanted to thank you for the gift you gave me this past holiday. It was a kind gesture, and is appreciated. I'm not sure how relevant it is as a whole. It's a different sort of ranking system than you find where I'm from. I hope you've been feeling better adjusted to this place and their different expectations.
[By this time, the toxin has more or less left him. He's no longer needing to be restrained or sedated, although he's still reactive to sudden noises like the communicator going off.
Luckily, he has enough wits about him to not throw the thing across the room, so a minute or two later, Chilton gets a call back.]
Hello.
This time is fine. What did you want?
[No longer uncontrollably violent, still blunt af.]
My name is Mr. 0. You don't know me, but I know you.
I'm putting together a group called Genesis, and we'd appreciate your assistance.
We were all brought here against our will, and while there are some that prefer being here, many of us would rather return to our own homes. However, our only chances to go back to where we came from come with either winning their war, and remaining at the mercy of the Porter and its whims. The first option is supposed to be the preferable one, but how can we trust the government to get the Porter to send us back when they barely understand it? They've kept it under guard for years, studied it, and they still have no real answers. We shouldn't trust them with the Porter, and we shouldn't trust them to know what's best for us when their only interest is in how much damage we can do in their war.
We need to take matters into our own hands. ImPorts need to not only gain access to the Porter, but find our own way to gain control over it. We should be the ones to determine whether or not we stay or go home, not the government or the very machine that brought us here. Genesis wants to turn this into a reality, but in order to do that, we'll need your help.
Don't try to contact me with your answer. You won't be able to find me, and you don't need to find me. I'll get back to you soon enough to learn your answer. You won't need to worry about when and where, of course. Someone will be able to find you when the time comes.
Also, I would advise against discussing this message or its contents with anyone else. You can never really know who to trust in this place, after all.
Thank you for agreeing to join our little group. We're currently working on getting everything in order, but for now, you can get started by meeting your new partner, Ms. Obscura.
You'll be meeting her on the 17th at 7:20, inside the aquarium in Nonah. She's a girl roughly your age. Dark hair, freckles... she shouldn't be difficult for you to find.
I hope your first meeting with Ms. Obscura went well, because it's time for the two of you to start working together. As you can see, an assortment of small cameras and microphones have been included with this message, along with directions to government buildings in each of the porter cities. I need the both of you to go into each of those buildings and plant them in a place where they aren't likely to be found. After that, all I need for you to do is watch and listen.
We all know that the government here can't be trusted. If we're to get anywhere, we first need to understand what they're doing before moving forward. This is vital. We need to know what's happening where imPorts are staying, so we can protect ourselves and our interests as time goes by.
Go back and retrieve the bugs after two weeks have passed. Someone will find you shortly afterward. I expect you both to give them a full report of what was seen and heard, along with the devices, when the time comes.
Use this as an opportunity to prove yourself. You're no good to this organization if you can't even accomplish a simple task. So get it done, and don't be sloppy.
Regards, Mr. 0
